Subject: TAB: The Masterplan by Oasis

The Masterplan, written by Noel Gallagher, performed by Oasis
This is another one of my favorites by Oasis, truly an epic song and
another where our lads are accompanied by a string and horn section.
There's alot of weird chords used in this song, and the chords are sort
of hard to hear (especially in the intro) because of the string
section, so keep an open mind when you see this transcription on
paper, because if you play the song, you'll hear these chords are pretty
much the right ones. Written next to some of the chords I use for this
song are the chords listed in the official Oasis B-sides guitar book
(thanks to Paul Das for providing these) in case you want
to know what that book has listed. Unfortunately, I don't think the
transcription found in this book is a very accurate one (as is the case
with many transcriptions in the "official" Oasis tab books) so you can try
out these chords if you wish, but you'll most likely agree with me that in
most cases the "official" book is incorrect.

Chords used:

	 EADGBe
Am (x02210)
A7sus4 (x02030) or try (x05430) [official book: G/A (x05433)]
Fmaj7/A (x03210) [official book: F/A (x03211)]
C/B (x2x010) [official book: G/B (x20003)]
C	(x32010)
D (xx0232)
E	(022100)
E7	(020100)
F	(x33211)
G	(3x0033)

Intro:
-----

Here's my attempt at the intro. It may not be exactly how Noel's playing
it, but it sounds almost exactly the same. For a couple of other attempts
at how to play the intro, see the bottom of this transcription...

Chords used in intro:

Am (x07500)
Am/G# (x06500)	[official book: Am(maj7/G#) (4x2210)]
Am7 (x05500)	[official book: Am7/G (3x2210)]
Am/F#	(x04500) [official book: Am6/F# (2x2210)]
Fmaj7/A (x03500)	[official book: Fmaj7 (1x2210)]
Am/D (x00500)	[official book: D (xx0232)]
E7	(020100)

So here it goes:

Am Am/G# Am7 Am/F# Fmaj7/A Am/D Am E7 (repeat)

While the book has the intro like this:

Am Am(maj7/G#) Am7/G Am6/F# Fmaj7 D G Am E7

Verse 1
-------
Am
Take the time to make some sense

   A7sus4
of what you want to say
    Fmaj7/A A7sus4 Am E7
and cast your words away upon the waves

Am
Sail them home with acquiesce
     A7sus4
On a ship of hope today
    Fmaj7/A A7sus4
And as they land upon the shore
D F

G E E7

G E E7

Verse 2
-------
I'm not saying right is wrong
It's up to us to make
The best of all the things that come our way

'Cos everything that's been has passed
The answer's in the looking glass
There's four and twenty million doors
Down life's endless corridor
Say it loud and sing it proud today

And then

CHORUS

After chorus the chords: C B/C Am G are repeated for a while.

                    The Masterplan by Oasis
                   -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
From: Tom Gisby (blackice@gizz.demon.co.uk)

I worked out the intro so it sounds right when played on one guitar (you
need bass to do what they actually do). Basically, it`s an Am chord with one
note descending (what the bass usually does):-

Intro:-

Am , Am-maj7, Am7 , Am? , Am? , Am? ,
e=0   e=0      e=0   e=0   e=0   e=0
B=1   B=1      B=1   B=1   B=1   B=1    Then you hit a G (low E string)
G=2   G=1      G=0   G=2   G=2   G=2    three times, on the third slide
D=2   D=2      D=2   D=4   D=3   D=0    up to an A and play Am again.
A=0   A=0      A=0   A=0   A=0   A=0    ..... and then an E7 once.
E=X , E=X    , E=X , E=X , E=X , E=x ,
                            ^ ^
                         Fmaj7? Dsus2 7?

This section is repeated, but at the end after the Dsus2 7th or whatever it
is, you do this (it`s really the bit the strings do):-

e|----------------------|
B|----------------------| (they are all semi-quavers)
G|----------------------|
D|--0h1-0---0-----------|
A|--------3---3-0---0---| <- play Am chord, and then the E7 as
E|----------------3-----| we did before.

Verse 1:-
-------
Am Am7
Take the time to make some sense of what you want to say,
    Fmaj7 G Am E7
And cast your words away against the waves,
Am Am7
Sail them home with acquiesce on a ship of hope today,
    Fmaj7 G C E7
And as they land upon the shore tell them not to fear no more.

G E7
Say it loud and sing it proud today, and then

Chorus:-
------
C
Dance if you wanna dance,
G
Please brother take the chance,
Am
You know they`re gonna go
E7 F G
Which way they wanna go, oh
    C G C
They know ways that we don`t know
(C still)
How it`s gonna be
G
Please brother let it be
Am
Life on the other hand
E7 F G
Wont make us understand
(G) Am
We`re all for the masterplan.

-->Instrumental........   (chords??)

G E7
Say it loud an sing it proud today.

Verse 2:- (same chords as Verse 1)
-------
I`m not saying right is wrong, it`s up to us to make
The best of all the things that come our way.
`Cos everything that`s been has past, the answers in the looking glass,
As four and 20 millions doors on lifes endless corridor.

Say it loud and sing it proud and then, we`ll

Chorus:-
------
C
Dance if you wanna dance,
G
Please brother take the chance,
Am
You know they`re gonna go
E7 F
Which way they wanna go
G C G C
they know ways that we don`t know
(C still)
How it`s gonna be
G
Please brother let it be
Am
Life on the other hand
E7 F G
Wont make you understand
(G) C G
We`re all for the masterplan.

Outro:-
-----

C, G, Am, G,
C, G, Am, G,
C, G, Am, G,
C, G, Am, G,
C G Am G x2
ooooh, ooooh, etc

F... G... E7...
Then do the intro to finish (and some widdly guitar bits).

"I`d like to be under the sea, in an octopusses......" - The Beatles.

Have you noticed how the chorus is virtually 'Don`t Look Back in Anger'?
('Whatever' too).
Have fun.
